Your Professional Blog: Remember that there was a required entry after last weeks session with Monica. Continue working on your blog -- adding reflections as well as comments on your classmates blogs.
No Class Next week (11/10): We will not meet as a class as you will have the opportunity to be part of an online community. Two possible online communities are on the class page in Discovery. One is the K-12 Online Conference -- the 2009 conference starts the end of November, but you can listen to the sessions from the 2008 conference. The information for the 2008 conference is on the right side of the page. There were some good sessions last year. For instance, if you click on the "Kicking it up a notch" link you will see titles such as "Film school for video podcasters" and "Connecting Classrooms across continents". If you click on the title that you are interested in you will either see a little video window or a link to DotSUB. Find one or more topics that are of interest to you and follow the guidelines in Discovery regarding your blog post. Another option is to listen to an archived podcast from EdTechTalk or check their schedule and login to a live session. Feel free to participate in another online community if you find one of interest to you.
Class on 11/17 will be a panel of NU School of Education graduates. We will probably meet in one of the conference rooms in HSC and I will let you know the room number when I get a confirmation on that. Be ready with some questions regarding teaching and technology.
Assignment #4 - Part #1 is due next Tuesday at midnight. Here are some details regarding creating your podcast:
I would recommend that you download Freecorder (which is free). I would recommend that you change the folder where recorded files are saved to your desktop or to a folder in My Docs rather then in the Program File which is the default. Also if you are having problems recording check to make sure that the Line option is correct -- the settings will depend on your computer. For my laptop the setting is "digital mic".
You will need to create an account with box.net or one of the other online storage web sites so you will have a url to add to your blog.
